July 3, 2026 – Assumption College Bangrak held a celebration ceremony for the DAEDALUS team after they won the Annual CanSat Competition 2026 World Championship, as the only high school team to reach the finals. The event also included a behind-the-scenes look at the DREAM MAKER SPACE laboratory.
On July 3, 2026 at 5:30 PM, Assumption College, Bang Rak District, Bangkok, hosted an official congratulatory ceremony for Team DAEDALUS at the Learning, Research and Development Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation and Advanced Technology, 3rd Floor, St. Louis-Marie Building. This high school team made history by successfully winning the "World Champion" title in the Annual CanSat Competition 2026.
Team DAEDALUS represented Thailand in the final round of the Annual CanSat Competition 2026, an international aerospace engineering and simulated satellite competition held in Monterey, Virginia, USA, from June 4-7, 2026. Competing against teams primarily consisting of university students from leading institutions worldwide, DAEDALUS was the only high school team to reach the finals. They achieved the highest overall score in the competition with 93.0778 out of a possible 100 points, earning them The First Place Winner Award or the title of world champion.
The main tasks of the final competition were divided into three parts: Flight Readiness Review, Launch Mission (deployment and operation of the simulated satellite), and Post Flight Review.
Brother Dr. Dechachai Sripicharn, Director of Assumption College, presided over the ceremony, presenting honorary jackets to all DAEDALUS team members and appreciation plaques to supporting organizations that contributed to the project's success. Brother Wiriyah Chanthaarodom, School Advisor, and Brother Patcharakorn Langbubpha, Deputy Director / Head of Academic Affairs, also attended the event.
Representatives from Team DAEDALUS shared their journey, inspiration for joining the project, and the efforts behind the scenes over several months leading to their success. They also guided media and attendees through the laboratories within the Learning Center.

The success of Team DAEDALUS was made possible by the support of various sectors, including the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, the Defence Technology Institute (DTI), Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, Sino-Pacific Trading (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Central Restaurants Group Co., Ltd., Assumption Alumni Class 97, the Assumption College Parents and Teachers Association, Mordeles Co., Ltd., the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project by PTT Public Company Limited, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), and the Assumption Association.
CanSat, or "can satellite," is a miniature satellite model the size of a beverage can (around 330 milliliters), initiated by the European Space Agency (ESA) to promote learning in space technology, engineering, programming, and teamwork. This is achieved through the process of designing, building, and testing simulated satellites to perform real mission functions, even if they are not launched into actual orbit.
The success of Team DAEDALUS is not only a source of pride for Assumption College but also reaffirms the potential of Thai youth on the global aerospace engineering stage. It further inspires the new generation to take a greater interest in science and space technology.
The Annual CanSat Competition is organized by the American Astronautical Society (AAS) in collaboration with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to simulate a complete space project development process, allowing students to gain real-world experience. The mission for 2026, named Paraglider Instrument Delivery, required each team to design a system capable of safely delivering fragile scientific instruments to a designated landing site. The CanSat had to release its payload at exactly 80% of the maximum altitude before autonomously gliding to the ground using a paraglider.
A major challenge of this mission was the unpredictable and variable wind conditions during the competition. The team had to rely on predictive design, meticulous planning, and repeated pre-flight testing to maintain the accuracy of the trajectory and landing spot. Once the capsule landed, the team also had to prepare a Post Flight Review report summarizing the mission, analyzing flight data, identifying problems encountered, and proposing improvements to the judging panel.
To qualify for the final round, Team DAEDALUS had to be selected from over 82 applicant teams worldwide. In the Environmental Test round, which assessed the durability of the CanSat in terms of temperature, vibration, safety, and electronic system stability, the team achieved a perfect score of 100 points and accumulated a total score of 99.113% in the qualifying rounds. This allowed them to advance to the final round, where only 36 teams from 23 countries worldwide were granted participation. DAEDALUS was the only high school team among all the teams competing in this round.
The project's goal was to design, build, and control a can-sized simulated satellite to perform a complete mission cycle, mimicking a real space mission. This was done under strict constraints of size, weight, and reliability. The CanSat had to withstand launch conditions from a rocket, deploy its gliding system and release its payload safely during descent, collect real-time data, and accurately transmit telemetry signals back to the ground station.
Every subsystem was controlled by microcontrollers running custom-developed firmware, designed with redundancy and fault tolerance to ensure the mission could continue even if problems arose. The team intended this project to truly simulate the work process of professional aerospace engineers, from reviewing system requirements, preliminary and critical design reviews (PDR/CDR), to testing and equipment recovery after flight, thereby training skills in electronics, programming, mechanics, and system integration simultaneously.
The success of Team DAEDALUS reinforces the reputation of Assumption College, a Catholic educational institution by the Chao Phraya River near Assumption Cathedral, founded in 1885 by Father Émile-Auguste Colombet, who invited the Brothers of St. Gabriel from France to help develop education for Thai youth. Over the past century, the school has nurtured alumni who have played significant roles in the country's political, business, and professional spheres. Most recently, the school's reputation has expanded into the global aerospace engineering community through the success of Team DAEDALUS, reflecting that dedication and vision are not limited by age.
