PA12-CF is a nylon 12 filament reinforced with 20% carbon fiber, offering an exceptionally high strength-to-weight ratio, heat resistance up to 177°C, and lower moisture absorption compared to general PA6 nylon filaments. This results in high dimensional stability, making it suitable for automotive and aerospace parts, factory jigs and fixtures, and functional prototypes that require high load-bearing capabilities.
Among the engineering-grade filaments used in industrial sectors, Nylon (Polyamide) is a highly popular material due to its toughness and fatigue resistance. However, when businesses require parts with even greater strength while maintaining a light weight, reinforcing nylon with carbon fiber is the answer. PA12-CF was developed from a Nylon 12 (PA12) base, mixed with approximately 20% short carbon fibers to enhance stiffness and impact resistance beyond general nylon.
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Carbon fiber reinforcement makes the parts stiffer and better able to withstand impact than general plastic filaments, while remaining lightweight. This is ideal for parts that need to move or endure repetitive loads, such as drone components or sports equipment.
High Heat Resistance up to 177°C: With a high Heat Deflection Temperature, parts maintain their shape even when used in high-temperature environments, such as near engine compartments or continuously operating industrial equipment.
Low Moisture Absorption: A significant advantage of PA12, differentiating it from PA6 nylon families, is its much lower moisture absorption from the air. This results in high dimensional stability, preventing warping or shrinking easily, even when stored in humid conditions.

Due to its carbon fiber content, it is recommended to use hardened steel or ruby nozzles instead of general brass nozzles. Carbon fiber is highly abrasive and will wear down brass nozzles faster than usual.
Set the nozzle temperature between 260-280°C and the print bed temperature at 60-70°C, and print at a moderate speed of about 50-100 mm/s for good layer adhesion. It is recommended to use an enclosure to maintain a stable ambient temperature throughout printing, especially for large parts prone to warping.
Although PA12-CF absorbs less moisture than general nylon, it should still be dried before every print for the best results. Dry at 90°C for 12 hours or 110°C for 4 hours before printing. After use, store the filament in a dry box to maintain long-term quality.
